Intensive Group Therapy

This program offers group therapy through feedback, self-observation, the transferential relationship and emotional experience. The therapy objectives are adapted to the particular problematics presented by each participant. The group is composed of 6 to 8 participants and 2 therapists (a psychiatrist and psychotherapist).

This group therapy meets once a week for three hours over a six-month period. Clients are assigned a therapist, that they meet with once a week throughout the duration of the program.

Objectives

  • To work directly on managing emotions and interpersonal difficulties
  • To foster behavioural change in the context of harmful relationship patterns

Inclusion criteria: 

  • Between 18 and 65 years old
  • Valid OHIP health card
  • Resident of the area serviced by Home and Community Care Support Services Champlain
  • Presenting a diagnosis of severe and/or persistent depression and/or anxiety
  • Be able to read, write and express emotions in the language of the group (French only)
  • Be motivated to engage in intensive therapy aimed at changing problematic behaviors and ways of managing emotions
  • Have a sufficiently stable living situation to undertake a therapeutic process (housing, food, transport and reachable by telephone)
  • Completed referral form from primary care provider
  • Referring family physician or nurse practitioner agrees to a return care 
  • If referred by a psychiatrist: last progress note, current medication list, confirmation to offer follow-up in case of crisis, and confirmation to accept the return of care must be included

Exclusion criteria: 

  • Excessive substance use
  • Psychotic disorders (active psychosis)
  • Active suicidal ideation
  • Eating disorders as a primary diagnosis
  • Cognitive or developmental disorders
  • Ongoing hypomanic or manic episode
  • Active legal charges against the person referred (probation situation accepted)
  • Acute ongoing post traumatic stress disorder symptoms 
  • Antisocial personality disorder or traits

To refer a patient to this service, a family doctor or nurse practitioner must fill out the referral form, accept return of care and send the completed form by fax to 613-748-4938. 

Hôpital Montfort

This service at the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub is offered by Hôpital Montfort.

This service is also available by videoconference or telephone.
