Geriatric Psychiatry Community Services of Ottawa is a fully bilingual community-based geriatric outpatient program in the Ottawa area. Our services aim to optimize the mental health of older adults and support caregivers of individuals with dementia who are experiencing behavioural changes.
Ottawa Community Geriatric Psychiatry Services serves people over the age of 65 living in the Ottawa community who are experiencing complex mental health symptoms or dementia-related behaviours that are difficult to manage.
Our services include a number of programs that address the mental health needs of seniors.
In partnership with the Royal Hospital's Geriatric Psychiatry Program, we offer a centralized intake service for geriatric psychiatry outpatient referrals. All outpatient referrals for the City of Ottawa are routed and triaged through the centralized intake service.
Our geriatric psychiatrists work with referring physicians who provide psychiatric consultations to diagnose and treat seniors with cognitive and mental health problems.
Our team of community-based case managers includes nurses, social workers and occupational therapists. Case managers work with you and your home support network. They conduct a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and develop a plan with you and your family or caregivers to address your mental health needs. Our short-term case management services are also offered in partnership with other senior support organizations to help you maintain your independence and improve your mental health.
We have three outpatient group therapy programs:
- Stress reduction for senior caregivers through mindfulness
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for seniors with depression and anxiety disorders
- CARER: a group program to strengthen the skills of caregivers of people with dementia
