Changes to mask-wearing guidelines

Ottawa, April 25, 2024 - Following a reassessment of the risk levels surrounding respiratory infections, a review of practices at other hospitals/health care centres, and recommendations from the hospital's Infection Control and Occupational Health and Safety departments, as well as the Ministry of Health, the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub is making a change to its mask-wearing guidelines.

As of April 25, wearing mask is recommended, but no longer mandatory in all areas of the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub. 

We will continue to make masks widely available and to encourage staff, patients and their families to wear them, as this practice is still relevant for preventing infections.

People who come to the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub with symptoms of respiratory infection are asked to always wear a mask. 

As always, we will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate measures accordingly. For example, wearing a mask may once again become mandatory, depending on the situation and the recommendations of infection control and occupational health and safety departments, as well as public health authorities. 

Masks mandatory in certain situations

In all areas of the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub, staff will continue to wear a mask in certain situations, such as:

• When requested by a patient, relative, client or colleague.
• When their risk assessment suggests they do so to protect themselves from splashes, or to protect a vulnerable patient.
• When a staff member is self-isolating at work.
