Shovel in the ground for the Orléans Health Hub

Orléans, August 20, 2019 – In communities across Ontario, patients are waiting too long for care and finding it difficult to navigate a disconnected and confusing health care system. The Government of Ontario is investing in new, innovative models to create a better care experience for patients and to build more capacity within the health care system to help end hallway health care.

Today, Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, was joined by Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure, Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation and Francophone Affairs, and Robin Martin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health, to announce an up to $75 million investment in the Orléans Health Hub project and to celebrate the start of construction. The new one-storey building will bring together bilingual services from three hospitals and four community service providers under one roof to support better coordinated care for patients and families, and ultimately reduce wait times. It is expected to open in summer 2021.

“Our government will end hallway health care by investing in innovative projects like the Orléans Health Hub – the first of its kind in Ontario – that will help more patients and families access coordinated care, in a single location and in both official languages,” said Elliott. “Developing new integrated models of care that are supported by its infrastructure, is a key part of our broader plan to build a connected and sustainable public health care system centred around the needs of patients.”

Under the hub, patients will have access to bilingual, patient-centred and integrated health care programs and services, including:

  • Specialist clinics such as dermatology, paediatrics, orthopedics and wound management;
  • Mental health counselling, assessments and treatments;
  • Specialized seniors’ day programs, services and supports;
  • Medical imaging such as x-ray and ultrasound; and
  • Rehabilitation services.

“The Orléans Health Hub is a great example of a smart infrastructure investment, being delivered through our P3 model,” said Scott. “When complete the Orléans Health Hub will bring together key players and critical services, protecting what matters most for its community members.”

This project is part of the government’s commitment to invest $27 billion over the next 10 years in hospital infrastructure projects across Ontario.

“Having Hôpital Montfort in this new health hub is part of our commitment to improve the availability of health services in French across Ontario,” said Mulroney. “Improving access to health care for francophones will continue to be one of our priorities as we focus on the needs of patients while modernizing our public health care system.”

Quick Facts:

  • The Orléans Health Hub is a collaborative project among the following service providers: Hôpital Montfort, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Bruyère Continuing Care, Champlain Local Health Integration Network Home and Community Care, Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, Geriatric Psychiatry Community Services of Ottawa, and Youth Services Bureau.
  • The new one-storey building will be about 96,000 square-feet, located at the northeast corner of Mer-Bleue Road and Brian Coburn Boulevard.
  • The Orléans Health Hub will be a resource to all health service providers within its catchment area, including primary care physicians.
