Nutrition counselling

The Registered Dietitian offers nutrition counselling to patients who are participating in the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. Once patients are enrolled into the rehabilitation program, a Registered Nurse or a Respiratory Therapist can refer to the Dietitian.

The Dietitian provides a 60 minute initial consultation and 30 minute follow-up visits as needed. The visits are completed in person at the Health Hub in Orleans or virtually via MS Teams or phone.

The initial consultation consists of a thorough analysis of the patient’s dietary patterns followed by nutrition interventions, which include individualized recommendations and teachings. The nutrition interventions will take into consideration respective cardiovascular and pulmonary dietary guidelines. Patients must be eager to learn about nutrition and motivated to work on their own eating habits.

The Dietitian can utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques to guide the patient through improving their eating behaviors. The Dietitian also takes part in presenting on various nutrition topics for the virtual group education sessions.
